Fused Glass and me
My Story Begins
Learning to create art from fused glass, has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. My journey with glass started as a hobby over 20 years ago when I discovered the pure magic of light passing through coloured glass. I am a self-thought Irish glass artist who has been on a constant journey of discovery honing my craft pushing my boundaries to create glass art that brings joy and happiness to my customers lives.....and sometimes if I am lucky, it makes my heart burst with pride. Over the years I have explored many different techniques in working with glass before being introduced to the wonders of fused glass. It has been a constant source of joy and excitement in my life.
My Glass Studio
My glass studio, my happy place, is located 2km outside the charming fishing village of Kilmore Quay, Co. Wexford a breathtakingly beautiful place in the south-east of Ireland. I opened my glass studio to the public in 2000, for 24 years now. Customers have visited from all over the world bringing original unique fused glass home from their travels. My studio is open Mon-Sat 11.30 to 5 pm, closed on Sunday.
The Magic of Glass
As an Irish fused glass maker one of my favourite moments of the day is opening the kiln to see what daily delights await inside. It is a thrilling moment to take a beautifully formed piece of fused glass from the kiln placing it in the sunlight and witnessing that moment when the first shaft of light passes through the vibrant colours. It's like watching your work take a breath and come alive! Each handcrafted piece is unique, there will always be colour and design variations. I love the individuality of each piece, the free flowing organic shapes created by the glass fill me with joy.
WHAT INFLUENCES MY WORK?
My fused glass art is hugely influenced by my love of my home county Wexford, its breathtaking coastline and a love affair with colour. I am grateful for everyday I get to work with glass it has been such an integral part of my life and I am excited to see where the next 25 years take me.
